Reconciliation Australiaby Cathy Boyle Reconciliation Australia is the body established to provide a continuing national focus for reconciliation following the end of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation in December 2000. . Shelley Reys Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia in her letter to the State Committees writes: The achievements of reconciliation
so far, including last year's bridge walks involving one million people,
came from the efforts of many thousands of Australians who gave their
active support. Now the challenge is to build on these foundations to
achieve true and lasting reconciliation. Reconciliation Australia recognizes
that State and Territory Reconciliation Committees, together with local
reconciliation groups, are fundamental to the success of the reconciliation
process. We are committed to support and promote your work the issues
of importance to your communities. At this stage we do not have the resources
previously available to the Council for Reconciliation to support State,
Territory and local activities but we wish to keep in contact and we hope
you will keep us informed of your activities and views. Reconciliation Australia and State/Territory committees are all non-profit bodies, now completely independent of governments and other organizations and rely on community support to continue the work of reconciliation. I would like to encourage all
WILPF branches to join their State Reconciliation body and work together
to promote the Reconciliation vision. |
