Children of the Gulf War
|
Our MissionAs citizens concerned with social justice and the situation in Iraq, we have conceived a program that we hope will draw attention to the impact of war and economic sanctions on the people of Iraq, and especially on the children. Many people in Australia know little about what actually goes on in Iraq other than what mainstream media tells them, nor about about the effects that government policy has on the civilian population. Bringing truthful information to the public attention is our program's objective. We organize exhibitions of the works of Japanese photojournalist, Takashi Morizumi. The photos of this fine photographer deal with the effects of war and economic sanctions in Iraq. The national tour of the exhibition begins in Brisbane on 12 February 2003. (People in Melbourne have been able to see the photographs sooner - from January 31st - thanks to the Melbourne City Council's commitment to borrowing a copy of the exhibition from Japan). We also plan to distribute books and other educational material that is related to war on civilians in Iraq. As part of our mission, we are educating about the use of DU weapons worldwide, and working with other organizations toward an end to the manufacture and use of DU weapons.
