What is Depleted Uranium (DU)?

Depleted uranium (U-238) is made from uranium hexaflouride, which is the non-fissionable by-product of the uranium enrichment process completed at facilities in Tennessee, Ohio, and Kentucky in the U.S.. The process removes fissionable U-234 and U-235 to make nuclear bombs and reactor fuel.

The remaining uranium, which is 99.8% uranium 238, is called depleted uranium. The term depleted implies it isn't dangerous, when in fact, it is deadly. This waste product is disposed of by producing weapons, armor, and concrete (DUCRETE).
