On December 10, members of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) in Hobart gathered to commemorate United Nations Human Rights Day with an end-of-year lunch and a collaborative workshop. The focus of the event was to prepare personalised Human Rights messages for four local Federal parliamentarians, emphasising the importance of these values in policymaking and governance.

Harriet Binet, President of the Tasmanian Branch of WILPF, proudly holds a significant Human Rights message intended for all parliamentarians. This message underscores the critical role of human rights in achieving peace and equality.

As part of their advocacy efforts, WILPF members visited the office of Andrew Wilkie, the independent Member for Clark. During the visit, they presented their Human Rights messages, reinforcing the need for a stronger commitment to these principles in government policy.

WILPF members are seen diligently crafting meaningful Human Rights messages to share with Federal parliamentarians. Their efforts reflect a deep commitment to advocating for justice, equality, and peace through direct civic engagement.

The group also visited the office of Greens Senator Nick McKim to share their messages. This initiative highlights WILPF’s ongoing dedication to engaging with elected representatives across the political spectrum in the pursuit of lasting peace and social justice.
