There are many ways that schools and their students may commemorate the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ‘Hiroshima and Nagasaki: 80 Years – Commemorative Ideas for Schools’ provides a range of suggestions for educational and commemorative activities, including curriculum integration of lessons in history, science, civics and ethics, and the arts; craft activities; commemorative events; and community engagement.
A number of useful resources are included to support these activities. ‘Hiroshima and Nagasaki: 80 Years – Commemorative Ideas for Schools’ was created by a working group of the Women’s International League for Peace Freedom SA Branch as part of a local peace collaboration.
This collaboration was initiated by Léonie Ebert, founder of the Graham F. Smith Peace Foundation and long-term member of the Women’s International League for Peace Freedom.
It aimed to inform young people about the devastating historical events of August 1945 and the ensuing nuclear era, to highlight the importance of promoting peace.
